Guide to Public Seating
2014
Paper Collage
14.7 x 14.7 cm each
Why do we usually leave a space when sitting beside a stranger on the MRT? Why do we choose to sit beside some people and not others? Are there intrinsic rules that 'guide' the way we interact with others in a public space?
In this work, I observe and depict public seating patterns – referencing instinctive notions of privacy that we abide by in a public space. By alluding to a 'textbook' illustrative style, and incorporating several false/unusual scenarios, I try to bring people to question how these imaginary rules are being defined.
